About UsWe both moved to Ottawa Hills, Ohio the same year. We were nine and ten. That was 50 years ago. Throughout high school we had overlapping circles of friends, and even way back then there was a spark between us. It just took 40 years and a lot of living to bring us back together. This time the spark ignited into a full-fledged love affair that has us beaming from ear to ear.
Throughout those many years, we both sailed. A lot. Ed was the racer, participating in (and winning!) numerous Chicago to Mackinac and Port Huron to Mackinac races. He was the commodore of his yacht club, and taught his children to be his racing crew. I became interested in sailing as a college student summering in Ocean City, Maryland. I started out on a Sunfish. I never was a racer, but love to cruise, and my experiences took me throughout Lake Erie, the Chesapeake Bay, the Pacific, and the Caribbean. Today we combine the tactics of a racer with the comforts of a cruiser and our plan is to create some fast but very fun sails! |

Our History-
|
Thanks to a high school group on Facebook, we rekindled our friendship. We often spoke of joining forces on a sailing adventure but the timing just never worked out.
After hours of phone conversations and long emails back and forth, we decided we needed to have a face-to-face meeting. (did I forget to mention we were 2000 miles apart?) For the Fourth of July, 2014, I was going to visit friends at their lake house in Michigan, which would place me only 90 miles from Ed. That was manageable! We hatched a plan for him to pick me up at the Detroit airport and spend the holiday weekend with me. Our common core beliefs and upbringing allowed us to skip over the discovery phase that consumes so much time at the start of a relationship. We fell right into lockstep the moment we saw each other at the airport. Our weekend together was so much fun, we knew it couldn't end there. After sending me off back to Phoenix, we figured out the logistics, and Ed was in Phoenix with me in just a few weeks. Since then, there's been no looking back -- only full steam ahead! |
